Another way you can help to control acne is from within through supplements. Even though they are more on the ‘spenny’ side and take a while to work these, the supplements below are the only ones I would consider taking myself from a skincare perspective. Supplements aren’t necessary and take a while to make a visible difference, but if you can justify it then it’s just another option to consider.

For treatments in most cases your acne has to be under control to an extent. So most treatments you cannot do on ‘Active’ acne so this is acne that is really raw, has open pastules and just very angry looking. Acne scarring however is very treatable and there’re so many options to choose from.
- if you are on prescribed medication for acne then you have to be off the medication for 6 months before having treatments in most cases.
Chemical peels - Low grade chemical peels are great for acne, it’s resurfacing and anti bacterial so will help reduce the appearance of minor scaring and will help with keeping reoccurring breakouts at bay when used alongside an at home routine. Chemical peels are also great for hyperpigmentation that is usually left by acne.
Micro-needling - One of my favourite treatments to do and to have done. Micro-needling has so many different benefits. If you have really prominent acne scarring and pigmentation this treatment is great for you. It works by causing very minor trauma to the skin to stimulate its natural healing process and collagen production - is the simplest way I can put it. This is also an amazing anti-ageing treatment to smooth lines and wrinkles, improve elasticity and tighten.
Laser Resurfacing - The laser creates beams of thermal energy which penetrate deep into the skin. The laser beams vaporise damaged skin and by stimulating your body’s natural healing process, encourage collagen production and cell regeneration to reveal glowing renewed skin. This treatment is great for anti-aging and also skin conditions including scarring, acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation and pigmentation such as age spots and sunspots.
All these treatments must be carried out by professionals, so please do your research when looking for a clinic to carry out these procedures.
