Exfoliating - Mechanical vs Chemical

Exfoliating - Mechanical vs Chemical

Exfoliating is a key part of a skincare routine it removes dead skin cells, dirt and grime. It has so many benefits, regular exfoliation improves skins brightness and texture as well as keeping it super fresh looking.

Mechanical exfoliating is basically your traditional grainy exfoliators that you’d only do once or twice a week at the very most. They can be quite harsh on your skin if used incorrectly - glide don’t scrub. However mechanical exfoliators do get a bad wrap these days they’re not what they used to be, old harsh and stripping ingredients are rarely used anymore so if you like the feel of a traditional exfoliation go for it. As lovely as some mechanical exfoliators can be in my opinion chemical exfoliation is the way forward.

You’ll see chemical exfoliators are everywhere, so here is a break down:
AHA - derived from sugar cane or other plant sources, it exfoliates and helps increase the shedding of dead surface skin cells and helps stimulate collagen. The most common AHA is glycolic acid. This would be great if you have a more mature skin, it’s amazing for pigmentation and brightening the skin too. Some you can use daily if you wish listen to your skin if it’s getting too much and feeling sensitive cut down your usage.

BHA - Cuts through oil and Is known to fight bacteria. The most common BHA is salicylic acid amazing if you have oily, acne or blemish prone skin. If you do have a more oily skin type exfoliating with a low grade BHA daily will be perfect to help manage sebum production and blemish causing bacteria.

Exfoliate after you’ve cleansed your skin on an evening it will be more effective. A good exfoliator is something I would without a doubt invest in. It will be helping treat a skin condition as well as contributing to a glowing healthy looking skin - it’s worth the money.
